American Business Women's Day

The first American Business Women's Day (ABWday) was celebrated in 1982. It is a national day for Americans to recognize the achievements of millions of employed women in the U.S. It is observed on September 22, the anniversary of the founding of the American Business Women's Association.  In 1983 and 1986, joint congressional resolutions were passed designating September 22nd as American Business Women's Day. Following each resolution, President Ronald Regan issued a Presidential proclamation.

In 2005 the Reno-Tahoe Express Network and the Washoe Zephyrs Chapter of the local Reno area American Business Women's Association, held their inaugural ABWday event.

Keynote Speaker is Mary C. Kelly, PhD, Commander, U.S. Navy (ret) is CEO of Productive Leaders, a consulting firm specializing in professional speaking and business training for education, government and private business.

Mary is a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, earned an M.A. in economics from the University of Oklahoma, an M.A. in history from the University of Hawaii, and a PhD in economics from Greenwich University.

As a speaker and presenter, Mary Kelly pulls from her diverse experience to provide keynote presentations that are engaging and compelling, leaving audiences wanting more.  With a warm, entertaining, and sincere style, Dr. Kelly uses her vast knowledge to provide informative presentations that hold the interest of her audience.

Tickets are $35 each or a table for $230. Door open at 11:00am. We will end at 1:00pm. Corporate sponsorships are welcomed. Master's Degree level $1,000 (full table); Bachelor Degree Level $500 (1/2 table). Recognition in program and advertising. For more information call 775-857-2529.

The two ABWA Chapters in the Reno area provide six (6) scholarships and grants to women pursuing their undergraduate and graduate degrees. We also support their ongoing professional development in order to assist with career advancement and as role models, mentors and leaders for the future. These scholarships are funded by our one annual major fundraising event; ABWday!!
